Amadou and Mariam are a Malian musical duo composed of Amadou Bagayoko (guitar and vocals), born in Bamako on October 24, 1954, and Mariam Doumbia (vocals), born in Bamako on April 15, 1958. Known as «the blind couple from Mali», they met at the Mali Institute for the Young Blind and discovered a shared passion for music. Amadou and Mariam have achieved international fame thanks to their unique musical style that blends traditional African elements with pop, reggae and world music influences. Their lyrics often address social themes such as love, hope and the fight against poverty. Among their most representative songs are «Sabali», «Je veux», «Bamako» and «Dounia».
