Lilla Melodifestivalen was a Swedish music festival that selected artists to represent the nation in two major singing competitions: the Junior Eurovision Song Contest (JESC) and the Eurovision. From 2003 to 2005, the winners of Lilla Melodifestivalen were able to participate in the JESC. In 2006, Sveriges Television (SVT), along with Denmark and Norway, withdrew from the festival to participate in Melodi Grand Prix Nordic, a singing competition for young people between eight and fifteen years old. Between 2006 and 2009, TV4 was responsible for Sweden's participation in the Junior Eurovision. In 2010, SVT returned to the JESC, allowing the winner of Lilla Melodifestivalen to compete in the broader context of the European Eurovision.
