Marco Hietala (born Marko Tapani Hietala) is a Finnish musician known for his versatile career in the heavy metal music scene. After starting with the progressive rock band Tarot in the 1980s, Hietala achieved international fame as bassist and vocalist of Nightwish from 1997 to 2021. His powerful and melodic voice, capable of ranging from operatic tones to metallic growls, became a distinctive element of the band's sound.
