Michel Jean Legrand (Paris, February 24, 1932 – Paris, January 26, 2019) was a French composer, pianist, arranger, and conductor known for his work in jazz, pop, and film scores. Considered one of the greatest film composers of all time, he won three Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, and a Golden Globe. His music spans from jazz to pop, passing through classical music and musical theatre. Legrand is renowned for his catchy melodies, innovative use of instruments, and ability to create evocative atmospheres. Among his most famous films are "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg", "Yentl", and "Life Is Beautiful". He collaborated with directors such as Claude Lelouch, Stanley Kubrick, and Woody Allen.
