Philip Irvin Bailey (Chicago, November 8, 1950) is an American singer and songwriter, best known as the lead vocalist of the funk/soul group Earth, Wind and Fire. Bailey began his musical career in the 1960s with the groups The Chi-Lites and The New Birth. In 1972 he joined Earth, Wind and Fire, quickly becoming one of the most recognizable members of the group thanks to his powerful and versatile voice. With Earth, Wind and Fire, he contributed to creating some of the most influential funk/soul albums of all time, including "That's the Way of the World" (1975), "Spirit" (1976) and "I Am" (1979). Besides his work with Earth, Wind and Fire, Bailey has also pursued a successful solo career, releasing several hit albums in the 1980s and 1990s. Among his most famous songs as a soloist are "Easy Lover" (in collaboration with Phil Collins) and "My Love Is Real". Bailey is considered one of the most influential soul singers of all time, his powerful and melodic voice has inspired generations of artists.
