The Fourth State is a Milan-based band formed in 2009 in Melegnano (Milan). The founders are vocalist/bassist Francesco Dolcemascolo and drummer Paolo Bernazzani, who previously played together in various cover bands. They decided to start a new project based on original music, experimenting with different genres before finding their identity. Alessia Spagnuolo joined the band, bringing a dirty and fast rhythm that, combined with Paolo's powerful drumming, defined the ideal sound for lyrics that express the uncommunicativeness of our time and the alienation of the individual. The band debuted live in local contests and as support for Overflow, alternating original songs with rock classics. The decision to perform only original songs came after noticing the greater energy and passion conveyed in their own compositions compared to covers. In a few months, 14 fast and distorted tracks emerged, reflecting the complexities and difficulties of the modern individual. Songs like 'Conversation on War', 'You Who Weren't There' and 'A Moment Before an Era After' tackle themes such as the consequences of war, drug addiction, and relationship breakdown. The Fourth State performs in venues like Casa della Musica in Milan, Tropicana and TNT Club, refining their live performance skills. Their complete repertoire allows them to play at festivals like Yeesweeknd and social centers like Cantiere and Eterotopia. The band continues to alternate live dates with studio sessions to record the material they create. The name change from Eversion to Il Quarto Stato in early 2013 represents a sense of responsibility: the band wants to amplify the voices of those who have no voice.
