Muzio Clementi (1752-1832) è stato un compositore, pianista, editore e costruttore di pianoforti italiano. Considerato uno dei pionieri della musica per pianoforte moderno, ha contribuito in modo significativo alla diffusione e allo sviluppo dello strumento. Nato a Roma, Clementi ricevette una formazione musicale rigorosa fin da giovane. Si distinse come virtuoso pianista sin dall'infanzia, esibendosi in tutta Europa. Nel 1770 si trasferì a Londra, dove divenne un compositore di grande successo e insegnò a numerosi studenti illustri, tra cui il futuro compositore Ludwig van Beethoven. Clementi è noto soprattutto per la sua monumentale raccolta di studi per pianoforte, "Gradus ad Parnassum", pubblicata in due volumi nel 1817 e considerata una pietra miliare nella letteratura pianistica. La sua musica presenta un'elegante melodia, una struttura armonica raffinata e una tecnica virtuosistica complessa. Tra le sue opere più rappresentative si annoverano anche sonate, concerti per pianoforte e musiche da camera. Clementi è ricordato come uno dei compositori più influenti del suo tempo, il cui lavoro ha contribuito a plasmare lo sviluppo della musica pianistica occidentale.
