Biography

Piero Campi is an Italian singer-songwriter born in Taranto but active for years in the Bologna music scene. Music represents his natural language, the tool through which he observes and tells the world. After his beginnings with the band Dharma, protagonist of the Apulian scene and winner of numerous awards, he embarks on a solo career that leads him to establish himself as an attentive, direct and never accommodating songwriter. In 2008, the song "Words" enters national radio circuits (Virgin Radio, Radio 105 and Radio Kiss Kiss) and is awarded at the Nat Fest in Taranto as best new song and best lyrics by a jury composed of Beppe D'Onghia, Mariella Nava, Antonio Coggio and Mario Rosini. In the same year, the single "Where Will You Be" is selected for Sanremo Nuova Generazione, receiving praise from the jury and the press, including public recognition from Gianluca Grignani on Radio 105. In the following years, Piero releases new songs such as "Close My Eyes" and "Shadow", receiving positive reviews from industry media. In 2012 he participates in the project "AUT – Artists United for Taranto", a choral song written by Marco De Bartolomeo against environmental pollution caused by Ilva. In 2013 he moves to Bologna, where he frequents the local songwriter circuit and meets Lucio Dalla, with whom he has several opportunities to confront himself. The encounters with Dalla represent a turning point: it is precisely he who suggests him to rewrite starting from a more personal voice, more direct. A piece of advice that deeply marks his writing and gives shape to a new artistic path, in which words become acts and sound becomes a political gesture. Since then, Piero Campi's music continues to unite the urgency of rock with a straightforward, essential and courageous writing, like his voice.
