Sharon Jones (1956-2016) was an American singer and actress, best known as the lead vocalist of the funk band Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings. Born in Augusta, Georgia, Jones began her musical career in the 1980s, singing in New York City clubs. In 2002, she formed her group with the Dap-Kings, a band of musicians skilled in reviving the soul and funk sounds of the 1960s and 1970s. Their powerful and authentic sound quickly gained success, leading them to collaborate with artists like Amy Winehouse and Charles Bradley. Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings released six studio albums, including the critically acclaimed "100 Days, 100 Nights" (2007) and "I Learned the Hard Way" (2014). Jones was recognized for her powerful voice, energetic performances, and dedication to the soul genre. Her music achieved international success, contributing to the revival of vintage sounds from the 1960s and 1970s. Some of Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings' most representative songs include "100 Days, 100 Nights", "You Got Me", and "Stranger to My Happiness". Sadly, her career was cut short by a pancreatic cancer diagnosis in 2013. Despite the challenges, Jones continued to perform until the end of her life.
