It will not be a tender fire
Upon your postcard mountains
No golden children
Will write hymns about
The slow defeat of your reckless destiny
Bullets in the bellies of babies
Sleeping in the strangest places
Indifferent to the blinding grace of
The vapour-trails and burning waste
Of your baptist skies
Oh! To live! In a burning house
With burning children eating dust
And finger-painting flags
Smoke pours out of their eyes
They're praying and saluting
They're all hanged up
Hey! Okay! Kiss me slowly
Beneath the dripping leaves
Of our traintrack trees
Though sickly and diseased
Some weeds thrive anyways
This fence around your garden won't keep the sky from falling...
A Silver Mt. Zion is a Canadian musical group formed in Montreal in 1999 as an offshoot of Godspeed You! Black Emperor. The original nucleus was composed of members of the GY!BE collective, but the project soon expanded with the addition of new musicians, voices, and a wider sonic range. Their musical style is characterized by a mix of post-rock, experimental folk and classical music, often with poetic and introspective lyrics that explore themes such as politics, religion, and human nature. Among their most representative songs are "The 3rd and the Dying of the Light", "Born into Slums" and "This Is Our Wilderness". A Silver Mt. Zion has released several successful albums, including "Horses in the Sky" (2001) and "This Is Our Wilderness" (2005).

My favorite group when I was just a teenager were the Fugees, thanks to them a certain curiosity about english language was born in me. I wanted to know and understand the lyrics of their songs, it wasn't enough for me to be carried away exclusively by their beautiful music.
