Roll a gasper
The guard said he could stay alive
But he has to shovel
And burn his people to die
And the gate read:
Arbeit Macht Frei
In her rollers
And a gasper
Cleaning the steps in a mean street
Where no policeman walks the beat
For her husband
(her old man)
He don't like blacks or queers
(yet he's proud he beat the nazis? - how queer...)
The Libertines are an English indie rock band formed in London in 1997. The original lineup consisted of Pete Doherty (vocals, guitar), Carl Barat (guitar, vocals), John Hassall (bass) and Gary Powell (drums). The band achieved success with their self-titled debut album in 2002, characterized by an energetic sound that blended garage rock, punk revival and pop melodies. Among their most notable songs are "Time for Heroes", "Can't Stand Me Now" and "Don't Look Back into the Sun". After a series of internal and personal problems, including those related to Doherty's alcoholism and drug use, The Libertines disbanded in 2005. In 2010, the band announced a reunion with the release of the album "Anthems for Doomed Youth", followed by a world tour. In 2014 they released their third studio album, "The Libertines". The band is considered one of the most influential in the British indie rock movement of the 2000s.
