Joe Strummer and The Mescaleros were a musical band formed in 1999 with Joe Strummer, former frontman of the Clash, on vocals and guitar. The group released three albums before Strummer's death in 2002. The members of the group were eclectic musicians, many of them skilled in multiple instruments. The original lineup included: Joe Strummer (vocals, guitar), Antony Genn (guitar), Scott Shields (bass), Martin Slattery (keyboards, guitar, flute and saxophone on some songs), Pablo Cook (percussion) and Smiley (Steve Barnard) on drums. Richard Flack contributed with sound effects and other instruments. The music of the Mescaleros was a mix of punk rock, folk and reggae, influenced by Strummer's musical experiences. Among the group's most well-known songs are "Yalla Yalla", "Long Shadow" and "Rudie Can't Fail".
