Therion is a Swedish heavy metal band formed in 1987 in Väsby, a suburb of Stockholm. Considered pioneers of symphonic metal, they have gone through several stylistic phases, from early black metal to progressive metal, incorporating classical, orchestral and even folk elements into their music. The band is known for its epic-dramatic live performances and the use of a wide range of instruments, including choirs, strings and keyboards. Among their most representative songs are "To Mega Therion", "Theli" and "Cult of Fire". The album "Lemuria" (1996) is considered a turning point in their career, marking their entry into symphonic metal with classical influences. Therion has collaborated with numerous artists, including opera soprano Sarah Brightman. The band continues to be active and record new albums.
