Thought Industry is an American progressive metal band from Kalamazoo, Michigan. Formed in 1989 as Desecrater by Brent Oberlin (vocals and bass), Dustin Donaldson (drums), Christopher Lee Simmonds (guitar) and Steve Spaeth (guitar), the band has undergone several lineup changes throughout its history. After Spaeth's departure, Paul Enzio joined the lineup for their debut album with Metal Blade Records, "Songs For Insects" in 1992. In 1996, with the album "Outer Space Is Just a Martini Away", the band saw a significant change in sound and lineup, with Jared Bryant replacing Donaldson and Oberlin switching to guitar. Herb Ledbetter joined as bassist. In 1997, with Lee's departure, the band released the darker "Black Umbrella". In 1999, Bryant, Enzio and Ledbetter left the band, prompting Oberlin to assemble a new lineup for their 2001 magnum opus "Short Wave on a Cold Day", which included Mike Roche (guitar), Cameron Taylor (drums), Mark Baldwin (bass) and Jeff Borkowski (guitar/keyboards).
