Thought Industry è una band americana di progressive metal originaria di Kalamazoo, Michigan. Fondata nel 1989 con il nome Desecrater da Brent Oberlin (voce e basso), Dustin Donaldson (batteria) , Christopher Lee Simmonds (chitarra) e Steve Spaeth (chitarra), la band ha subito diverse modifiche nel corso degli anni. Dopo l'uscita di Spaeth, Paul Enzio si è unito alla formazione per il loro album d'esordio con Metal Blade Records, "Songs For Insects" del 1992. Nel 1996, con l'album "Outer Space Is Just a Martini Away", la band ha visto un cambiamento significativo nel suono e nella formazione, con Jared Bryant al posto di Donaldson e Oberlin che passa alla chitarra. Herb Ledbetter si è unito come bassista. Nel 1997, con l'uscita di Lee, la band ha pubblicato il più cupo "Black Umbrella". Nel 1999, Bryant, Enzio e Ledbetter hanno lasciato la band, spingendo Oberlin a formare una nuova formazione per il loro album del 2001, "Short Wave on a Cold Day", che includeva Mike Roche (chitarra), Cameron Taylor (batteria), Mark Baldwin (basso) e Jeff Borkowski (chitarra/tastiere).
