Bernard John Taupin, known professionally as Bernie Taupin, is a British poet and lyricist born in Sleaford, Lincolnshire, in 1950. He is best known for his long and prolific collaboration with Elton John, with whom he forms one of the most celebrated songwriting partnerships in the history of modern music. They began collaborating in 1967, when Taupin was only 17 years old, and since then they have written hundreds of songs that have sold millions of copies worldwide.
