Steve Cropper, also known as "The Colonel", was an American guitarist, composer, and songwriter born in Memphis in 1941. Considered one of the greatest musicians in the history of soul and rock 'n' roll, he made a significant contribution to the birth of funk. Cropper began his career playing with local Memphis groups before joining Booker T. and the M.G.'s in 1962. With this band, he recorded some of the most iconic tracks in music history, such as "Time Is Tight", "Green Onions", and "Soul Limbo". Cropper was also a session musician for numerous world-famous artists, including Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, and The Staple Singers. His distinctive guitar technique, characterized by funky riffs and memorable melodic lines, has influenced generations of musicians. In addition to his musical activities, Cropper was also a successful record producer. In 1986 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Booker T. and the M.G.'s.
