Nata a Palermo nel 1927, Rosa Balistreri iniziò la sua carriera artistica negli anni '50, collaborando con importanti musicisti italiani come Enzo Gragnaniello e Franco Battiato. La sua voce potente e caratteristica, unita alla sua profonda conoscenza della tradizione musicale siciliana, le valse il successo in Italia e all'estero. Tra i suoi brani più famosi figurano "A lu munnu", "La luna" e "Canti Siciliani".
