Michael Franti is an American singer-songwriter, poet, and record producer born on April 21, 1966. Of African, Native American, Irish, French, and German descent, Franti is known for his music that blends elements of hip hop, reggae, rock, and folk. He began his career in the 1980s with the group The Beatnigs, then formed Spearhead in 1994.
