Varathron is a Greek black metal band formed in Athens in 1988 by Stefanos Karasavvas, who performs under the pseudonym Stefan Necroabyssious. Considered pioneers of the Greek black metal scene alongside bands like Rotting Christ and Necromantia, Varathron's sound is characterized by dark atmospheres and fast rhythms. Their first concert took place in 1990, sharing the stage with Rotting Christ. Their debut album, titled "His Majesty at the Swamp", was released in 1993 through Cyber Music. Among their most representative songs are "The Serpent's Embrace", "Blood of the Gods" and "Darkest Hour".
