Windir è stata una band norvegese di black/folk/viking metal, attiva dal 1996 al 2005. Originaria di Sogndal, la band ha caratterizzato le proprie canzoni con un sound oscuro e atmosferico, influenzato dalla tradizione musicale norrena e dalle sonorità folk del dialetto locale. Il loro stile musicale è stato definito da molti come una fusione unica tra l'aggressività del black metal e la melodia evocativa del folk. I Windir hanno pubblicato tre album in studio: "Sognattar" (1997), "Arntor" (2001) e "1184" (2004). L'album "1184", considerato il loro capolavoro, è stato accolto con grande successo dalla critica e ha consolidato la posizione della band nel panorama metal internazionale. I Windir sono noti per le loro performance dal vivo intense ed emozionanti, che hanno contribuito a farli apprezzare da un pubblico sempre più ampio. La scomparsa del cantante e chitarrista Valfar (Lars Andreassen) nel 2005 ha segnato la fine della band. Tra i brani più rappresentativi di Windir ricordiamo "Vinterblot", "Sorgens Sang" e "1184".
