Whiplash è una storica band thrash metal americana formatasi nel 1984 a Passaic, New Jersey. I tre fondatori, tutti di nome Tony, erano Tony Portaro (voce e chitarra), Tony Scaglione (batteria) e Tony Bono (basso). Nel 1986 Joe Cangelosi sostituì Scaglione, che ebbe un breve periodo con Slayer. Cangelosi registrò l'album *Ticket to Mayhem* nel 1987 con i due Tonys. Nel 1989 Glenn Hansen si unì al gruppo come cantante, insieme a Cangelosi, per l'album *Insult to Injury*. La band si sciolse, ma si riunì nel 1996 per altri due album prima che i tre Tonys registrassero un ultimo disco insieme nel 1998. Whiplash è considerata una delle band più influenti del thrash metal americano degli anni '80.
