I was born on the cemetery. Under the sign of the moon.
Raised from my grave by the dead. I was made a mercenary.
In the legions of Hell. Now I'm king of pain, I'm insane.
You know my only pleasure is to hear you cry. I'd love to hear
you cry. I'd love to feel you die. And I'll be the first. To watch
your funeral. And I'll be the last to leave. I'd love to hear you cry.
And when you're down beyond the ground. I'll dig up your
body again. And make love to shame. Oh lady cry, and say
goodbye, goodbye. Oh lady cry, and say goodbye. You've
gotta say goodbye. 'Cause I will eat your mind.
Mercyful Fate is a Danish heavy metal band formed in Copenhagen in 1980. Considered pioneers of the black metal genre, they have profoundly influenced the subsequent music scene with their dark and theatrical sound. The group was founded by King Diamond (vocals) and Hank Shermann (guitar), who joined Michael Denner (guitar) and Timi Hansen (bass). Their debut album, *Melissa* (1983), introduced their style characterized by fast riffs, symphonic melodies, and evocative lyrics about demons and magic. *Curse of the Pharaohs* (1984) cemented their fame, with tracks like "Evil" and "The Jackal of Hell". After a hiatus in the 1990s, Mercyful Fate reunited in 2003 for a world tour. The band has released other successful albums, including *In the Shadows* (1987) and *Time* (1999). Mercyful Fate is known for King Diamond's theatrical performances, who often wears elaborate costumes and moves energetically on stage. Their most representative tracks include "Evil", "The Jackal of Hell", "A Dangerous Meeting" and "Black Magic Woman".
