Minor Threat were an American hardcore punk band active from 1980 to 1983, considered one of the cornerstones of the Washington D.C. hardcore scene. Founded by Ian MacKaye (vocals) and Jeff Nelson (guitar), the band profoundly influenced punk music with a raw and fast sound, characterized by aggressive riffs and politically and socially charged lyrics. Their most famous song, «Straight Edge», became the anthem of a cultural movement that promoted a lifestyle free from alcohol, drugs, and premarital sex. Minor Threat disbanded in 1983 after releasing three EPs and one studio album, but their impact on punk music has been enduring. The band influenced generations of musicians and continues to be considered one of the most important in the hardcore genre.
