Édith Piaf, born Édith Giovanna Gassion (Paris, December 19, 1915 – Grasse, October 11, 1963), was a French singer of international fame. Known as "La Môme Piaf" or "The Little Sparrow", she dominated the French music scene between the 1930s and 1960s. Born in a poor district of Paris, her childhood was marked by poverty and the loss of her father. She began singing on the streets at the age of seven, earning the nickname "Little Sparrow" (piaf in French). Her powerful and versatile voice, capable of transitioning from harsh tones to sweet melodies, made her one of France's most beloved artists.
