Dark Tranquillity is a Swedish melodic death metal band formed in Gothenburg in 1989. The founding members are vocalist Anders Friden, guitarists Niklas Sundin and Mikael Stanne, bassist Martin Henriksson and drummer Anders Jivarp. Initially the band was called Septic Broiler, but changed their name to Dark Tranquillity in 1990. Considered one of the pioneers of the melodic death metal genre, they have influenced numerous other bands with a sound characterized by catchy melodies and heavy riffs. Among their most important albums are *The Gallery* (1995), *Character* (1997) and *Projector* (2002). Some of their most representative songs are "The Treason", "Focus Shift", "Terminus" and "Lost to Apathy".
