Edvard Hagerup Grieg (Bergen, June 15, 1843 – Bergen, September 4, 1907) was a Norwegian composer and pianist widely regarded as the most important figure in Norwegian music. Grieg distinguished himself for his ability to blend elements of traditional Norwegian folk music with the compositional techniques of European Romanticism. His repertoire includes orchestral, chamber, choral, and vocal works, but he is best known for his piano pieces and chamber music. Among his most famous compositions are the Piano Concerto in A minor, the incidental music for Henrik Ibsen's play *Peer Gynt*, the Holberg Suite, and the Lyric Pieces, composed between 1867 and 1901 and collected in ten volumes. These last works are considered his masterpiece, thanks to their melodic beauty and deep connection with Norwegian culture. Grieg collaborated with prominent artists of his time, such as poet Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson and music publisher Wilhelm Hansen. His music has had a profound impact on both Norwegian and international music, contributing to the dissemination of knowledge about Scandinavian musical traditions.
