Michael Gordon Oldfield, known simply as Mike Oldfield, is a British composer and multi-instrumentalist born in London in 1953. Considered one of the pioneers of new age music, Oldfield achieved international fame with his debut album *Tubular Bells* (1973), a monumental instrumental composition that became a global success thanks to its soundtrack for the film *The Exorcist*.
