Dark Tranquillity è una band svedese di melodic death metal formatasi a Gothenburg nel 1989. I membri fondatori sono il vocalist Anders Friden, i chitarristi Niklas Sundin e Mikael Stanne, il bassista Martin Henriksson e il batterista Anders Jivarp. Inizialmente la band si chiamava Septic Broiler, ma cambiò nome in Dark Tranquillity nel 1990.
