Guaco is a Venezuelan tropical music band formed in Maracaibo, Zulia state, in 1960. Initially a traditional Gaita group, a Zulian folk rhythm characterized by strong rhythms and percussion, in the 1970s Guaco embarked on a new path by integrating Gaita with elements of Salsa (such as complex orchestral arrangements), violins and electric guitars (unusual instruments in a Gaita band). Today the Guaco rhythm continues to evolve through a complex mixture of Gaita, Salsa, Pop, Jazz, Funk and even Rock and Roll and Vallenato, creating a recognizable and unique style considered a landmark of the genre.
