Beneath the midnight caller
She thinks of paper green
You never hear them calling her name
They just know where they've been
You never hear her holler
The tears no longer come
She reads her daily book of the past
That shows of everyone
Grey years that show in her hair
Can't be, but don't seem to care
She unlocks the door and there's no one there
She sees a daytime stroller
Walk from the night before
And though she paints a smile on her face
He won't be back no more
She's got no saint to follow
She's got no place to go
Too proud to ask an old friend for help
Too proud to let him know
Grey years that show in her hair
Can't be, but don't seem to care
She knocks the door and there's no one there
Nobody (nobody), nobody (nobody), nobody's gonna help you now.
Badfinger was a British rock band active from the 1960s to the 1970s, known for their power pop sound influenced by Merseybeat and psychedelic music. Formed in Liverpool in 1967 as The Iveys, the group changed their name to Badfinger in 1968 after signing with Paul McCartney's Apple Records. Their success came with the 1970 album "No Dice", which included the single "Day After Day", one of the band's most famous songs. Other hits include "Come and Get It", written by Paul McCartney and recorded as the group's first single, and "Baby Blue", which became a rock classic. Sadly, Badfinger's story is marked by tragedies: two members of the group committed suicide due to the pressure resulting from disastrous management during that era. Despite the difficulties, Badfinger left an important musical legacy, influencing generations of power pop artists.
