Uncle Tupelo è stato un gruppo musicale alternative country proveniente da Belleville, Illinois, attivo dal 1987 al 1994. Il trio formato da Jay Farrar, Jeff Tweedy e Mike Heidorn si è formato dopo che il cantante del loro precedente gruppo, The Primitives, ha lasciato per frequentare l'università. Il gruppo ha registrato tre album per Rockville Records prima di firmare con Sire Records e espandersi a un quintetto.
