Doctor Ly è un cantante di origini francesi, nato e cresciuto tra la banlieue parigina e la Martinique. La sua musica fonde il reggae dancehall con influenze afrobeat, rap, reggaeton e soca, riflettendo la sua esperienza multietnica. A soli 16 anni registra a Martinique il suo primo brano, «Damelamano», influenzato dal reggaeton, che viene incluso nella compilation «DANCEHALL NEWS» del 1999. Dopo essere tornato in Francia per proseguire gli studi superiori, collabora con il produttore e DJ martiniquais DJ Halan, esibendosi anche al mitico Zénith di Parigi. Nel 2005 il brano «Vini Vini», un soca jump up che celebra l'Oltremare, diventa virale. Doctor Ly si afferma come performer, partecipando a eventi in Francia e all'estero, tra cui il tour delle Yoles in Martinica. Nel 2008, durante la trasmissione televisiva «Zoukamine», annuncia la sua intenzione di lavorare su un progetto discografico personale. Dopo un periodo di riflessione, nel 2012 inizia a produrre musica indipendentemente, pubblicando l'EP «Double Face» e continuando con almeno un singolo all'anno. Nel 2018 esce l'EP «Lourd», seguito nel 2020 dal suo primo album «Solo». Nel 2022 pubblica il nuovo EP «Light» il 22 maggio, data simbolica che commemora l'abolizione della schiavitù in Martinica.
