Gojira is a French progressive metal band formed in Bayonne in 1996. Originally called Godzilla, the group changed its name in 2001. The current lineup consists of Joe Duplantier (vocals and rhythm guitar), his brother Mario Duplantier (drums), Christian Andreu (lead guitar) and Jean-Michel Labadie (bass). Gojira is known for its complex music, influenced by death metal, thrash metal and progressive rock. Their lyrics often deal with environmental and spiritual themes.
