Otis Ray Redding Jr. (1941-1967) was an American soul singer, considered one of the most influential artists in the genre. Born in Dawson, Georgia, Redding began his musical career singing in churches and nightclubs in the Southern United States. In 1962 he signed with Stax Records, where he achieved success with songs like "Respect" (a cover of Aretha Franklin's) and "Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa-Fine".
