Eagles of Death Metal are an American garage rock band formed in Palm Desert, California, in 1998 by Jesse Hughes and Josh Homme. Despite the name, Eagles of Death Metal are not a death metal band. The story behind the name comes from a friend who was trying to introduce Josh Homme to the death metal genre. When he played a song by the Polish band Vader and claimed it was death metal, Homme called them "Eagles of Death Metal". After hearing this phrase, he wondered what a cross between the Eagles and a death metal band would sound like. In a 2003 interview, Homme described the band's sound as a combination of "bluegrass slide guitar mixed with stripper drum beats and Canned Heat vocals". Their sound is characterized by bluesy riffs, ironic lyrics, and an explosive energy that has made them one of the most beloved garage rock bands of contemporary times. Among their most representative songs are "No More Parties", "I Want You To Die" and "So Young".
