X-Ray Spex were a British musical group active from the late 1970s to the early 1980s. Considered one of the cornerstones of the punk rock movement, they gained notoriety for their music characterized by fast rhythms, provocative lyrics and the influence of ska music. The band was led by the charismatic Poly Styrene, a singer and frontwoman of Nigerian-British origin, whose powerful voice and often ironic and satirical lyrics contributed to defining the group's image. Their debut album, *Germ Free Adolescents* (1978), released on EMI, is considered a punk rock classic and achieved commercial success in Britain. Among the band's most famous songs are «Oh Bondage! Up Yours!!», «Identity» and «The Day the World Turned Day-Glo». After the dissolution of X-Ray Spex in 1980, Poly Styrene continued her musical career as a solo artist until her death in 2011.
