Il nome del gruppo è stato ispirato dal film *Arancia meccanica*, dove «devotchka» era la parola per indicare «ragazza» nella lingua Nadsat. Attive tra gli anni '90 e il 2000, le Devotchkas hanno guadagnato popolarità per il loro sound aggressivo e le liriche provocatorie, spesso incentrate su temi sociali come la disuguaglianza e l'oppressione.
