William Everett Preston, noto come Billy Preston, è stato un cantautore e polistrumentista statunitense nato a Houston, Texas, il 2 agosto 1946. Considerato uno dei musicisti più versatili della sua generazione, ha suonato pianoforte, organo, tastiere, basso elettrico, batteria e percussioni. La sua carriera musicale è iniziata all'età di sette anni con la formazione di un gruppo gospel. A soli quindici anni si trasferì a Los Angeles per dedicarsi alla musica professionistica. Nel corso degli anni '60 ha collaborato con artisti come The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton e Stevie Wonder, contribuendo a definire il sound del rock progressivo e della soul music. Preston è stato anche un apprezzato compositore e produttore musicale, pubblicando diversi album di successo tra cui "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year" (1970) e "Billy Preston" (1972). È morto a Los Angeles il 6 giugno 2006 all'età di 59 anni. Tra i suoi brani più rappresentativi ricordiamo "Outa-Space", "Will It Go Round in Circles" e "Nothing From Nothing".
