Scale, scale un po' vanitose
di tanti anni fa:
lei scendeva, lanciava rose,
stella del varietà.
Gradini di una vecchia scuola, ombrelli pronti per sbocciare,
di corsa si scendeva giù, giù fino al mare e poi
la dolce vita sorrideva, entrava dentro la fontana
l'America col piede suo in faccia alla luna lassù;
chi scende e chi sale, ma...
intanto il tempo passa, ruba e se ne va.
Scale, scale, dolce far niente
seduti tutti lì;
scherzi idioti a qualche passante,
come in un vecchio film.
E c'è chi sale lentamente, con una lacrima e un sorriso,
amici e parenti in blu e pioggia di riso e poi
due mani sopra un pianoforte, su e giù per quelle antiche scale
si stava in cerchio e Liverpool nasceva e cantava per noi;
chi scende e chi sale ma...
intanto il tempo passa ruba e se ne va.
