Luther Ronzoni Vandross Jr., known simply as Luther Vandross, was an American singer and songwriter born in New York City on April 20, 1951. Considered one of the greatest soul artists of all time, Vandross dominated the music charts of the 1980s and 1990s with his powerful voice and irresistible melodies. He began his career as a session musician for artists such as David Bowie and Chaka Khan before releasing his debut album in 1981.
