Amorphis is a Finnish metal band formed in 1990 by Jan Rechberger, Tomi Koivusaari, and Esa Holopainen. Initially a death metal act, Amorphis later evolved into playing other genres, including progressive metal and folk metal, while still maintaining strong roots in heavy metal. The band frequently draws inspiration from the Kalevala, the Epic Poem of Finland, for their lyrics.
