La formazione originale comprendeva Steve Harwell (voce), Paul De Lisle (basso), Michael Krompass (chitarra) e Randy Cooke (batteria). Il loro stile musicale è caratterizzato da una fusione di power pop, ska e rock alternativo, con influenze punk e surf rock.
