Tobin Sprout is an American musician and painter, best known as one of the founding members and guitarists of Guided by Voices. Sprout has collaborated with Robert Pollard, the band's leader, since the early 1980s, helping to define the lo-fi indie rock sound of Guided by Voices during the first half of the 1990s. His presence in the group was crucial for the musical evolution characterized by simple but effective riffs, often surreal lyrics and a direct and spartan recording approach. Sprout left Guided by Voices in 1997 to pursue solo projects and collaborations with other artists. Among his most representative works are the albums "The Great American Novel" (2003) and "New Songs for Old Friends" (2008). Sprout continues to be active in the music world, both as a musician and as a painter.
