Major Lance (born Lance Alan Wayne, 1938 – 2004) was an American soul and R and B singer and musician. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he began his musical career in the 1950s as a member of the group The Major Lancers. In 1960, he signed with Chess Records and achieved national success with the single "The Monkey Time" in 1962. The song became a major international hit, reaching number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Lance continued to record for Chess Records until 1965, releasing other hits such as "Hey Little Girl", "Baby Don't You Do It" and "You Can Make Me Feel Good". After leaving Chess Records, Lance worked with several record labels but never reached the same level of success. He died in 2004 in Chicago.
