Empyrium is a German musical group founded in 1994 by Markus Stock (mostly using the pseudonym Ulf T. Schwadorf) and Andreas Bach. Initially, they distinguished themselves for a symphonic folk/doom metal style, later evolving towards neofolk. Their first two albums, *A Wintersunset* and *Songs of Moors and Misty Fields*, followed by the demo *...Der wie ein Blitz vom Himmel fiel...*, present a doom metal sound (or, according to some, folk metal) with folk and symphonic influences. The distinctive features of Empyrium include guttural and operatic male vocals, slow and heavy guitar riffs and suggestive atmospheres.
