John Winston Ono Lennon (Liverpool, October 9, 1940 – New York, December 8, 1980) was an English singer-songwriter, musician, artist, and activist. Considered one of the most influential artists of the 20th century, Lennon is best known for his work with the Beatles, a musical group that revolutionized pop music in the 1960s. He began his musical career in the 1950s with the Quarrymen, a Liverpool band that evolved into the Beatles in 1960.
