Of Montreal is an American musical group formed in 1996 in Athens, Georgia, by visionary Kevin Barnes. The band's name comes from a relationship of Barnes with a girl from Montreal that ended abruptly. Barnes founded the band after leaving his previous group, The Gerbils. Of Montreal is known for its psychedelic and pop sound, characterized by catchy melodies, surreal lyrics, and complex arrangements.
