Biografia

Franco Califano (Rome, July 8, 1939 – Rome, August 14, 2013) was an Italian singer-songwriter and actor. Considered one of the most important songwriters in Italian music, Califano marked the musical scene of the 1960s and 1970s with his unique style that blended elements of rock, pop, and songwriting. Born in Rome to a modest family, Califano began his career as a singer in Roman clubs before being noticed by a record producer. His debut album came out in 1965 with the album "Franco Califano", which contained the song "Non ho paura". Califano achieved national success in the 1970s with songs like "Tutto resto e noia", "La mia casa è in cielo", "Neve, il cielo, l'immenso" and "Tac". Besides music, Califano acted in several films and television programs. Throughout his career, he collaborated with some of the greatest Italian musicians, including Lucio Battisti and Gino Paoli. His music was influenced by artists like Bob Dylan and Joan Baez. Califano was a controversial artist, known for his political and social positions. His music often addressed themes of protest and social denunciation. He died in Rome in 2013 at the age of 74.
