Rachel's is an American musical group formed in Louisville, Kentucky in 1991. The name derives from Jason Noble, former guitarist of Rodan, who initially played solo and called himself Rachel's before collaborating with the current members of the group: violist Christian Frederickson and pianist Rachel Grimes. The influence of classical music is evident in their work, particularly in the minimalist music of the 20th century. The composition reflects this inspiration. Although the trio forms the core of the group, Rachel's recordings and performances include a variable ensemble of musicians who play a range of string instruments (including viola and cello) along with piano, guitars, electric bass guitar and drums with a large orchestral bass drum. A key influence on the music of Rachel's is that of English composer Michael Nyman, whose music resembles both in arrangement and compositional style the work of the group. Some representative tracks are: *The Great Divide*, *A Thousand Years* and *The Last Day*.
